Dale is Rebuilding His Life with Support That Matters

For years, Dale built his career as a butcher’s hand, taking immense pride in his craft. But life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with a brain cyst. The illness not only disrupted his ability to work but also took a toll on his physical and mental well-being.

“I had to give up my job because of the brain cyst, and it really shook me,” Dale recalls. “Between 2017 and 2021, I underwent brain surgery and rehabilitation. It was a tough journey. I had to relearn basic things that most people take for granted.”

Stepping away from the job he loved left Dale uncertain about his future. He needed a fresh start, but more importantly, he needed an employer who would understand and support his unique health needs. That’s when his Occupational Therapist introduced him to WISE Employment and Clean Force, a social enterprise committed to making a difference.

A Second Chance with WISE Employment

Returning to work after a long break can feel overwhelming. Dale needed more than just a job; he needed an environment where he could rebuild his confidence and skills at his own pace. That’s exactly what WISE Employment provided.

Dale recalls, “WISE Employment was a real turning point for me. They welcomed me, helped me learn new skills, and introduced me to Clean Force. I didn’t even know about social enterprises before, but Clean Force gave me the chance to get back on my feet.”

More Than Just a Job at Clean Force

Clean Force is more than a cleaning service. It is a purpose-driven social enterprise dedicated to creating meaningful employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work.

Lilith Slater, Employee Support Officer at Clean Force, highlights their holistic approach. “At Clean Force, we believe in supporting the whole person. That means offering flexible work arrangements, training opportunities, and wellbeing programs that help our employees thrive, not just survive.”

Dale’s role at Clean Force has played a crucial part in his recovery. While he still experiences fatigue and other effects from his surgery, Clean Force ensures that his workload is manageable and tailored to his needs.

“I’m still recovering and get tired quickly, but Clean Force has been amazing,” Dale says. “They’ve adjusted my workload, and the support goes beyond just the job. They offer gym memberships and counselling sessions to help employees stay healthy and motivated.”

Finding Purpose and Belonging

Beyond the physical adjustments, Clean Force has given Dale something even more valuable: a sense of belonging.

“It’s not just about the job,” Dale explains. “It’s about being part of something bigger. The team here is fantastic, and for the first time in years, I feel like I have a future again.”

At Clean Force, the commitment goes beyond employment. It is about helping individuals build real career paths.

Lilith adds, “We want to provide real opportunities for people like Dale, those who might struggle to find work in traditional workplaces. Clean Force isn’t just a job. It’s a place where people can grow and rebuild their lives.”

Looking Ahead: A Future Full of Possibilities

As Dale continues his journey of recovery, he remains deeply grateful for the second chance that WISE Employment and Clean Force have given him. He is rebuilding his life one step at a time with the support of a team that truly cares.

“I’ve been given the chance to start over. Every day, I feel stronger, and I’m so thankful for the support I’ve received. It’s changed my life.”

For Clean Force, Dale’s story is a testament to the transformative power of social enterprises.

Lilith concludes, “We’re not here for charity. We’re here to provide opportunities. When you give people a chance, like we’ve done with Dale, they can thrive, and that’s what Clean Force is all about. “

A few months ago, Matt Lewis from the Melbourne WISE NDIS team contacted Lilith, the Employment Support Officer at Clean Force, regarding one of his participants who was keen to get into work and had a particular interest in cleaning.

It’s very rare to find a young person who is eager to clean, so they brought Eric to the Clean Force office to meet Lilith and have his job interview.

Eric’s NDIS Support Coordinator assisted with any funding-related issues. Lilith ensured correct supports were in place for Eric. Matt and Lilith collaborated to ensure the correct documentation was completed, and Gabe provided the practical training and support with travelling to a new place independently.

All of his ducks were in a row and finally, Eric was able to begin working his first job on the 29th of May! Eric’s role will be as the main cleaner in the upstairs office at the Clean Force Head Office in Heidelberg. Welcome to the team Eric!
